Tokens & Trinkets & Gold

Newspapers, letters and things that are written
Goldfish and birds and an unwanted kitten
Trophies and gold rings and bouquets of flowers
A grandfather clock that makes noise every hour

So leave it all for me to find
The things you cannot leave behind
All your tokens and trinkets and gold
And though it is quite plain to see
That none of this means much to me
I will wait for you ’til I am old
You’ll come back with you stuff’s still unsold
I will wait for you ’til all the oceans rise, skies will tear open and rain will unfold

An old record player and some records with scratches
A candle and four hundred boxes of matches
The things that you love and those things you forgot
And these walls that contain all those things that you’ve got

So leave it all for me to find
The things you cannot leave behind
All your tokens and trinkets and gold
And though it is quite plain to see
That none of this means much to me
I will wait for you ’til I am old
You’ll come back with you stuff’s still unsold
I will wait for you ’til all the oceans rise, skies will tear open and rain will unfold
I will wait for you ’til I am old

Goldfish and birds and an unwanted kitten
Newspapers, letters and things I have written
I know that I can’t make you stay
So I just hope that you’ll come back someday

So leave it all for me to find
The things you cannot leave behind
All your tokens and trinkets and gold
And though it is quite plain to see
That none of this means much to me
I will wait for you ’til I am old
You’ll come back with you stuff’s still unsold
I will wait for you ’til I am white haired and wrinkly, my looks will be gone I am told
I will wait for you ’til I am old
I will wait for you ’til I am old

New Old Song: Wondering Song

I found this on a recording of that one time I was featured in a radio talk show. We got to play live and I decided to one of my favorite songs.

Here’s a new old song for us. It’s called “Frankly” and it’s one of my favorites, this time played on the time (which is why I move strangely at times during the video). My husband called it “Monster’s Song” which I guess fits just as well.

Frankly

Frankly, I’d say
With all the losses and bruises
The adventures, the runnings away
I stumbled and swayed

Frankly, I think
I could have been so much better
Could have done so much worse
Still all the same
I am what I became

But that’s not what I want
And that’s not what I meant
And I know it is hard to understand
Then there you are
There you are
There you are

Frankly, I wish
If I could see this
See the sight of a world falling down
Into lovely pieces

Frankly, I’d play
To every melody, every tune, every chord
That you gave
To all that you made

But that’s not what I what
And that’s not what I said
And I know there are monsters living under my bed
Then there you are
There you are
There you are

But that’s not what I want
And that’s not what I meant
And you’re trying so hard to make me understand
That’s what you are
What you are
What you are

And there you are taking the sky
And there you are showing me how to fly
And there you are lifting me up
And there we go, go fly and no-one can stop us

And there you are showing me light
And there you are holding me tight
And there you are, you are all I hoped for
You are all that I want and you’re all I adore

But that’s not what I what
And that’s not what I said
And you scared all the monsters from under my bed
‘Cause of what you are
What you are
What you are

New Song: You Never

This song just happened when I was strumming one of my favorite chord pattern. There’s not much happening lyric-wise, but that’s kind of the point. At least that’s what I tell myself.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

or download the song

You Never

You never do what they tell you to do
What is it worth if you don’t want it to
You never say what they tell you to say
No-one is listening anyway

You never go where they tell you to go
No-one will notice if you do not show
You never stay when they tell you to stay
It doesn’t matter anyway

All the times you listened to
All their boring stories
And you know what it is like
There in purgatory
